Teen 'doesn't remember' day girlfriend was killed

The teen accused of murdering his girlfriend took the stand on Tuesday in a Sydney court room.

The teen accused of murdering his girlfriend took the stand on Tuesday in a Sydney court room. The now 18-year-old testified that he doesn't recall any of the events from that day, starting from the afternoon, when he took some pills and drank moonshine.

He said his next memory is hearing popping sounds.

The girl had 104 wounds, from several different knives.

The accused said he doesn't remember anything else until the police woke him up in a cell at about 4 a.m. He said he didn't believe his girlfriend was dead until he sawa picture of her body.

He was 16-years-old at the time of the incident.

During his testimony, the accused said he had a string of convictions bythat time,including break and enter and assault with a weapon.

He said he spent so much time at the Waterville youthfacility that he never really went back to school after Grade 7.

He also admitted to the court that he drank frequently, usually beer. He admitted to taking drugs three or four times a week, usually tranquilizers or antidepressants.

The accused said the two had been dating for four months at the time of his girlfriend's death. He told the court he loved her.

Neither the victim nor the accused can be named, under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
