Two Halifax-area teenage boys will be tried for attempted murder and aggravated assault in a trial set to start right after Christmas.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday in Halifax provincial court. Theywere remanded into custody until their three-day trial begins Dec. 27.

The teens are charged with trying to kill 40-year-old Warren Wesson who lived above the One World Cafe on Agricola Street in Halifax.

Two people burst into Wesson's apartment at 11 p.m. on July 14 and began firing shots. He jumped from a second-storey window and flagged down a passing motorist who took him to hospital.

Halifax regional police released the names and photos of the boys this summer under a temporary judge's order when they were trying to find them in connection with the shooting.

The names of the accused are now protected and cannot be published under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
