Tragically Hip wows Halifax with Kingston performance

CBC's special broadcast concert The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration aired Saturday night, and communities across the province played it for fans.

In Halifax, there wasa public showing of the commercial-free concertat the Grand Parade.

CBC reporter Carolyn Ray wasthere.

Fans began showing up at Grand Parade in Halifax late Saturday afternoon.

"If I want to think about old days, their songs can evoke so many different emotions and memories," said Troy Yeo.

Yeo has lived around the world, but says the band was always a source of coming back to Canada.

"If it's university, it's early 90s, mid 90s, it'sCourageandLocked in the Trunk of a Car.Post-university,Ahead by a Centuryevokes pretty incredible emotions," said Yeo. "Gordis a brilliant poet for how he can write his own story, but he can write whatever story you can come up with based on your own experiences in life."

There were eight venues hosting viewing parties across the province, including:

  • Kentville: Centennial Arena.
  • Liverpool:AstorTheatre.
  • New Glasgow:Glasgow Square Theatre.
  • Truro:InglisPlace.

  • Wolfville:Troy Restaurant.
