Trans-Canada Highway reopens after snow causes shutdown

The Nova Scotia and New Brunswick departments of transportation says because weather conditions have improved, the Trans-Canada Highway has reopened near the provincial border.

Traffic is being escorted single file in a westbound direction from Amherst, N.S.

In Sackville, N.B., tractor-trailers are waiting to finish their trek east.

"The tractor-trailers number in the hundreds," said Nova Scotia RCMP Sgt. Al LeBlanc.

"The issue now is becoming more of a logistical issue. Where do we put everyone while we're waiting?"

Earlier, the town of Sackville tweeted that people who are stranded by the road closures could head to the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre on Main Street, where the canteen is open and there is a warming centre on the second floor.

Highway 2 from Amherst to the New Brunswick border was also closed earlier on Friday.
