Nova Scotia veterans protest treatment of injured Canadian Forces members

A group of Canadian Armed Forces veterans held a protest Tuesday outside the federal Veterans Affairs office in Halifax to counter what they say is agovernment propaganda campaign.

"The government is saying everything with veterans is fine and we are working on things, but we don't find that to be the case," said veterans activist Dennis Manuge.

"There are veterans right across Canada their voices need to be heard. We just want to let Canadians know what the truth is. This government refuses to work with veterans on the issues."

Some of those issueinclude wait times, and delays for services,benefits andmedication approval, he said.

"We stand behind 95 per cent of the frontline [Veterans Affairs]staff," Manugesaid. "We just want their senior bureaucrats and government to give them the tools and resources they need to help veterans on a day-to-day basis in a timely and respectful manner."

The group also says $1.1 billion earmarked for veterans programs is not going towards assistance and programs promised to injured veterans.
