Chilly week ahead for Nova Scotia as summer closes in

The start of summer may only be 10 days away, but we'll likely see a cooler and damper first week than what we'd like.

That's why you'll want to take advantage of the sun in the forecast for Saturday.

A partial clearing trend alreadyis taking effect, but because we're still under the effects of a broad area of a low- pressure system, winds are coming from the north. That'skeeping conditions cool Fridayevening.

Dry, but cool patio night

Shortly after supper, the patio shouldbe dry enough to sit outside. You just might needan extra layer to stay warm. Winds are forecast to become light Fridayevening, making it an ideal night to enjoy a little campfire.

Saturday is shaping up to be the brightest and warmest day of the week, though it won't be as sunnyandawesome as forecasters originallywere anticipating.

The day will start out sunny in most areas, but as it heats up, clouds will start buildingduring the afternoon. As a result,some afternoon showers may develop.

Showers coming

Showers look less likely in the southwest and in the Annapolis Valley.

There's a possibilityof an afternoon sprinkle for the central, north and east portions of the mainland, and Cape Breton.

Then on Saturday night,the leading edge of another low-pressure system will trackinto northwestern New Brunswick. That will broadenout over the Maritimes by Sunday morning,eventually bringing showers to eastern areas by the evening.

Perhaps the only areas that will escape the showers on Sunday arethe Eastern Shore and Cape Breton. Elsewhere, it looks like the showery weather will move in and stick around for the next week or so.

End of June looks better

Environment Canada meteorologistLinda Libby says that'sbecause a high-level disturbance in the atmosphere is resulting in aloop of grey, showery weather that will repeat for the next week or so.

Itcould take even longer for that stalling pattern to break fromthis kind of influence, she said.

Libby says the long-range forecast shows an overall improvement in weather conditions for the back-half of the month of June.
