2-car crash in Wellington, N.S., leaves 2 people dead

An 87-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl are dead after a two-car collision in Wellington, N.S., Sunday evening.

An 87-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl are deadafter a two-car collision in Wellington, N.S., Sunday evening.

RCMPsay the crash happened at 7:20 p.m. on Highway 2 at Abilene Avenue, about five kilometres north of Fall River.

The 87-year-old man was in a car by himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 15-year-old girl was a passenger in the other car. She had serious injuries and was taken to hospital via a LifeFlight helicopter, but died later.

That car was driven bya 19-year-old man, who has serious injuries and was transported to hospital via an air ambulance. Also in thecar were a 13-year-old female and a 19-year-old malewho were both taken to hospital. They are expected to be OK.

Family learned of crash through social media

RCMPspokesperson Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said some of the family members of those involved in the accident learned about it through social media.

"For them to learn of a loved one either dying at a collision scene or being injured through social media is not OK and it's not acceptable," he said.

Hutchinson said people shouldn't share photos of collisions or details about them on social media.

"Allow the first responders to do their jobs, and part of that job is to contact family members of those involved," he said.
