Wentworth skiers flock to slim 'snow snake'

A thin ribbon of man-made snow is all that's available for skiers at Ski Wentworth at the moment.

The ski hill in northern Nova Scotia opened for the season on Monday. Green grass is everywhere, so the strip of snow stands out.

Wentworth had hoped to open before Christmas, but the warm temperatures and rain made that impossible.

"We started making snow early at the end of November, and then it's like Mother Nature turned a switch," said Leslie Wilson, general manager of Ski Wentworth.

Skiers flocked to the hill for the one open run, known as the "snow snake."

With dozens of people lining up for the chairlift, and dropping temperatures in the forecast, ski operators are hopeful the season will zip along swiftly.

Wilson said they hope to have at least one more run open by the weekend.

They expect between 70,000 and 80,000 visits this season.
