North Frontenac man identified as victim in Highway 401 crash

Ontario Provincial Police say a man is dead after a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Kingston, Ont., Saturday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the man killed in a multi-vehicle collisionon Highway 401 in Kingston, Ont., Saturday morning.

Wade Young, 27, is from the township ofSouth Frontenac. Hewas outside his truckwhen he was hit by an oncoming vehicle, causing a "chain reaction" crash involving two other vehicles, OPP said in a release.

Police were called to the scene near the Westbrook Road overpass shortly after 5 a.m.

"We believe he came out of the vehicle to look at the damage when the car behind him a short time later ran into the back of the vehicle,"Const.RoopSandhutold the Canadian Press.

One of the vehicles in the crash was hauling a camper trailer, Sandhu said. Five people were takentohospital withnon-life-threatening injuries.

Possibly too dark to see victim

Sandhu said other drivers may not have been able to see the stopped vehicle in the dark.

"It's too early to say about possible charges, but everything's going to be taken into consideration," he said.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 remained closed near the scene of the crash until around 6 p.m. Saturday. They are now open.
