Bail hearing underway for Ottawa terror suspect

A bail hearing is underway in Ottawa for a man charged in connection with an alleged terrorism plot.

Thehearing began Wednesday morning for Khurram Sher, 28, of London, Ont., and is expected to last three days.

Sherand two other men were charged in Augustwith conspiring to facilitate terrorism.

Evidence presented at the hearing is subject to a publication ban.

The CBC's Evan Dyer said that as many as 20 people, including family members, attended the proceeding to support Sher.

The bail hearing is before the same justice of the peace, Louisette Girault,who granted bail Tuesday to Sher's co-accused, Misbahuddin Ahmed, a 26-year-old Ottawa X-ray technologist.

Ahmed was released after his family agreed to post $20,000 cash bail and put up $625,000 in bonds and sureties.

Sher, who has appeared on Canadian Idol, was born and raised in Montreal and speaks both English and French fluently. He is a graduate of the McGill University medical school and completed his pathology residency in June.
