Barbadian man charged in death of Ottawa woman

A 24-year-old man from Barbados has been charged in the death of an Ottawa woman who was vacationing in Barbados, Barbadian police said Wednesday.

A 24-year-old man from Barbados has beencharged in the death of an Ottawa woman who was vacationing on the Caribbean island, Barbadian police said Wednesday.

Curtis Foster has been charged with the murder of Ottawa resident Terry Schwarzfeld, 60. He also faces a robbery charge related to the same incident on Feb. 28 in which Schwarzfeld and her daughter-in-law, Luana Cotsman, of Guelph, Ont., were allegedly beaten and mugged as they walked along Long Beach in Barbados.

Barbadian police said Foster has also been charged with three counts of robbery, one count of theft and one count of rapein relation to several othercrimes committed along the same stretch of beach.

The rape charge relates to a case involving a touristthatallegedly occurred a year ago on the southern coast of Long Beach.

Police allege that Schwarzfeld and Cotsman were knocked unconscious during the Feb. 28 attack. Cotsman regained consciousness right away, but Schwarzfeld never did.

Schwarzfeld was flown back to the Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus, where she died last Wednesday.

Foster was taken into custody Friday.

Barbadian police say they have recovered rings and a camera that belonged to Schwarzfeld.
