2 shootings, 1 of which critically injured a man, break Ottawa record

Two shootings on Sunday, one of which left a man critically injured, have broken the nation's capital's annual gun violence record.

Two shootings on Sunday, one of which left a man critically injured, have broken the annual gun violence record for Canada's capital.

The first shooting the city's 50thin2016happened at around 3 a.m. ETin the ByWard Market, near the intersection of George Street and ByWard Market Square.

A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition with multiplegunshot wounds, paramedics said.

On Mondaypolice said the victim's condition had improved and his lifewas no longer in danger.No arrests have been made so far and the investigation continues.

Shooting near Billings Bridge mall

Then, around 6:10 p.m. ET Sunday, several people called 911 to report hearing gunshots in the Billings Bridge area.

An officer who was nearby managed to get to the scene quickly but found only a broken window and shell casings on the 1200 block ofOhio Street.

No injuries have been reported and no suspects have been identified. It was the city's 51stshooting of the year.
