Bouncer injured in ByWard Market shooting

A man from Toronto's Scarborough area is inpolice custody afterhe allegedly shot a bouncer after being refused entry to a ByWard Market bar.

The shooting took place in front of the Room104bar and The Show nightclub, near Clarence and Dalhousie streets, shortly before1 a.m. Monday.

Ottawa policesaid in a media release that Andre Green"shot at bar security after being denied entry into a bar, striking a security guard twice in the leg."

Police ran after Green, who allegedly fired at one of the officers as he fled, policesaid.

Green was arrested and the gunwas seized by police. He has been charged withattempted murder, pointing a firearm and several other firearm offences, police said.

The victim was taken to the trauma centre in serious but stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, the Ottawa Paramedic Service said.

A man visiting Ottawa told Radio-Canada that he was awoken by screaming. Several people were in the area when the man was shot.

More than 55 shootings have occurred in OPS's coverage areasince the start of 2021.
