Strong candidates make Capital ward race one to watch

A field of five strong candidates are vying to run Capital ward for the next four years.

David Chernushenko was first elected councillor of Capital ward in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014 with 77 per cent of the vote. That means he'll probably be tough to beat.

But this time around, four candidates with strong community backgrounds are hoping to take the seat away from him:

• Jide Afolabi
• Anthony Carricato
• Christine McAllister
• Shawn Menard

The people of Capital ward are frustrated that community design plans appear to be ignored by city council. Other perennial issues of interest to residentsinclude garbage and recycling, the ramifications of the Lansdowne redevelopment,transit fares, ways the city can combat climate change, and balancing the needs of the ward's economically diverse constituents.
