Carlos Larmond beaten in Ottawa jail, 2 inmates charged

Two inmates have been charged with assault causing bodily harm after an Ottawa man facing charges related to terrorism was beaten earlier this month at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.

The alleged altercation took place in a common area at the Innes Road facility on March 3, just before 12:30 p.m., according to Ottawa police.

Carlos Larmondsuffered a broken left hand, a black eye and multiple scrapes and bruises, said Ottawa police Const. Marc Soucy.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and information on his current condition was not available Wednesday.

A 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old man are each facing one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon, police said.

Larmondand his twin brother, Ashton Larmond, were arrested by RCMP in early January.

Carlos Larmond is facingone count of participating in the activity of a terrorist group and one count of attempting to leave Canada to participate in terrorist activity abroad.
