Ottawans catapult, slingshot pumpkins into the sky for cystic fibrosis charity

Dozens of people used a giant catapult, an oversized slingshot and a trebuchet to launch pumpkins into the sky Sunday as part of a fundraiser for the Ottawa chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Dozens of peopleused a giant catapult, an oversized slingshot, and a trebuchet to launch pumpkins far into the sky Sunday as part ofa fundraiser for the Ottawa chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

The second annual Squash CF Ottawa event was held in a field near Fallowfield Road, just west of Highway 416.

People were invited to bring their jack-o-lanternsand pay $5 a pumpkin to send them flying towards a set of targets in the pumpkin patch. Those who hit atargetwere entered to win a prize.

Organizer Lois Graveline said 400 to500 people came to Richmond Nursery for last year's event, which raised $5,000.
