Christmas tree fuels fire east of Ottawa

Firefighters say an oil lamp that knocked over and ignited a Christmas tree is to blame for a fire in a rural home, east of Rockland.

Firefighters say an oil lampthat knocked over and ignited a Christmas tree isto blame for a fire in a rural home, east of Rockland.

Clarence-Rockland firefighters called Ottawa firefighters for back up Thursday afternoonto helpput outa house fire at 3035 Highway 17, just east of Rockland.

It was extinguished around 12:30 p.m., Ottawa fire reported.

One woman was taken to Hawkesbury hospitaland treated forsmoke inhalation.

District fire chief Luc Chayer said the woman had just finished filling anoil lamp and tripped as she carried it into the living room. It ignited the natural treeand spread from there.

Total damages have not yet been released.
