Key COVID-19 numbers in the Ottawa area today

Ottawa is reporting 67 more COVID-19 cases and two more deaths Wednesday. The city's medical officer of health will give an update at 2 p.m. ET.

67 more cases in Ottawa, 9 more deaths across the region

  • Ottawa is reporting 67 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths.
  • An update from city officials is planned for 2 p.m. ET.
  • Five more people have died in western Quebec,and two more in the area covered by theEastern Ontario Health Unit.

Today's Ottawa update

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) recorded 67 new cases ofCOVID-19 on Wednesday and two more deaths.

OPH has declared 145 morecases resolved.

The infection rate in Ottawa roseto record levels after Christmas, prompting OPH to declare last week the city wasagain in a COVID-19 crisis.

Ottawa's medical officer of health will take part ina pandemic update at 2 p.m. ET.

Thecurrent lockdownin eastern Ontario went into effect Dec. 26, and is scheduled tolast until Feb. 11.A provincial stay-at-home orderis also in effect.

42: The number of Ottawa residentsbeing treated in hospital forCOVID-19.

72.9:Thenumber of newCOVID-19 cases per 100,000 Ottawa residents continues to declinefrom Thursday's record high.

0.72:The average number of people infected by a single COVID-19 case, or R(t).Anything below one suggests the spread iscoming under control.

3.5%: Ottawa's average test positivity percentage has dropped sincethe previous update.

Across the region

Health authorities in western Quebec arereporting 21 more cases of COVID-19 and five more deaths.

Quebec's lockdownlasts until Feb. 8. Itincludes an 8 p.m. curfewthatwent into effect on the weekend.

Two more residents of the area covered by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) have died. The EOHU is reporting 25 new cases of COVID-19.
