Woman rushed to hospital after Vanier dog mauling

A 50-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition Saturday afternoon after being mauled by a dog in the city's Vanier neighbourhood.

Dog believed to be a pit bull, paramedics say

A 50-year-old woman was rushedto hospital in critical condition Saturday afternoon afterbeing mauled by a dog in the city's Vanier neighbourhood.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., first responders werecalled to Marier and Montfort streets where they found the woman suffering from "significant and extensive critical wounds" to her torso and extremities, the Ottawa Paramedic Service said in a statement.

The dog is believed to be a pit bull, paramedics said.

Firefighters were called to help extricate the woman.She was takento the Ottawa Hospital's trauma centre, where a surgical trauma team was waiting to treat her, paramedics said.

City police and bylaw services now have control of the dog, paramedics said.
