Eugene Melnyk, Ottawa Senators owner, released from hospital after liver transplant

The owner of the Ottawa Senators NHL team and an anonymous liver donor have both been released from hospital in Toronto following their successful liver transplant surgeries in May.

The owner of the Ottawa Senators NHL team and an anonymous liver donor haveboth been released from hospital in Toronto following theirsuccessful liver transplant surgeriesin May.

"Mr. Melnyk's recovery has been proceeding very well since undergoing his transplant [on May 19],"said Dr. Atul Humarin a media release issued by the Senators on Wednesday.

The anonymous donor who gave up part of theirliver is doing "extremely well," addedHumar,who is part ofMelnyk'smedical team.

Melnyk will require weekly follow-ups with his medical team and is now in a rehabilitationfacility.

"Mr. Melnyk and his family continue to be very thankful for all the support and best wishes received from the public, the media and the broader NHL family," the media release stated.

The team announced in early Maythat Melnyk was in need of a live liver transplant, and 12 people out of hundreds who expressed interest were putthrough a screening process.
