Farmer's Market set to open at Brewer Park

The Ottawa Farmer's Market is moving to Brewer Park starting Sunday as Lansdowne Park undergoes redevelopment.

The farmer's market had to find a new place to run during the Lansdowne Park redevelopment.

Now the weekly event, which runs until October 28, will sit between Bronson Avenue and the Brewer Park pool.

"It's not Lansdowne Park. It's not the centre of agriculture next to the Aberdeen Pavilion, but it's a beautiful location," said Robin Turner, president of the farmer's market who also runs Roots and Shoots Farm in Manotick Station, just south of Ottawa.

"There's grass and trees, which are a bit lacking at Lansdowne Park right now."

The farmer's market has held between 20 and 30 meetings with engineers to plan the return to Lansdowne once the redevelopment is complete, Turner added.

It plans a return in some form and did not discount two separate markets at Lansdowne and Brewer parks.

Turner also told CBC Radio One's Ottawa Morning parking will be tougher to find compared to Lansdowne Park.

It is available, though, at Brewer Park and at the P5 parking lot at the university. It costs $2 or free with a voucher printed on the market's website.
