The federal government has agreed to buy the former Nortel Networks headquarters for $208 million.

The 150-hectare property, known as the Carling Campus, had been Nortel's main centre for research and development prior to the company's breakup in 2009.

Thecampus covers 11 interconnected buildingsalong Carling Avenue and Moodie Drive in Ottawa's west end.

The deal with Public Works and Government Services Canada is subject to approval from the court overseeing Nortel's restructuring.

Nortel filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2009 and has been selling off its assets ever since.

Nortel will continue to occupy parts of the campus as its restructuring continues.

A sign bearing Nortel's name was removed from the campus earlier this year.
