Man faces 2nd-degree murder charge in Gatineau's 1st homicide of 2021

Police inGatineau, Que., say they've charged a 37-year-old manin connection with the death of a 61-year-old man in the city's Aylmer sector.

Gatineau, Que., police were called to a home on promenade Wychwood early Monday morning and found two men suffering undisclosed injuries. Norman Richards, 61, was later pronounced dead in hospital. (Radio-Canada)

Police inGatineau, Que., say a 37-year-old manis facing a second-degree murder chargein connection with the city's first homicide of the year.

In a news release, police saidLuk Deslauriers-Forestwas arrestedafter a man in his 60s was killed early Monday morning.

The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Norman Richards.

Officers were called to a home onpromenade Wychwoodin the Aylmersector of the city just after 12:30 a.m. Monday after getting reports of a fight.

Both men were found with injuries and rushed to the Hull Hospital, police said, where Richardswas pronounced dead.

'Isolated incident,' say police

Both the suspect and the victim lived under the same roof, police said.

Deslauriers-Forest suffered less serious injuries and is being detainedin hospital, police said. He made acourt appearance via telephone Monday.

Police called the murder an "isolated incident" and saidthey are not looking for any other suspects.

An autopsy will be performedTuesday at the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine in Montreal.
