Former councillor to lead Glebe BIA

Former Ottawa councillor Christine Leadman has been hired as head of the Glebe neighbourhood's Business Improvement Area.

Former Ottawa councillor Christine Leadman has been hired as head of the Glebe neighbourhood's Business Improvement Area.

Leadman, who was not re-elected to represent the Kitchissippi ward in October's municipal election, will serve as the Glebe BIA's executive director.

She has been a staunch critic of the proposed Lansdowne Park redevelopment, which will dominate the southeast end of the Glebe a neighbourhood on Bank Street between the Queensway and Rideau Canal.

Leadman told CBC News she's looking forward to working with the new council and "keeping the feet to the fire to get the best outcome," for the area.

Currently the BIA is challenging the city's Lansdowne redevelopment plan through the Ontario Municipal Board.

Leadman previously said the city's plans to renovate the Frank Clair Stadium for a prospective Canadian Football League franchise and add condominiums and shops to the area fell short of her expectations.

In the past, Leadman served as executive director of the Westboro BIA.
