Former news anchor Max Keeping fights new bout of cancer

Former CTV news anchor Max Keeping is battling cancer for a second time and will undergo major surgery, he revealed Tuesday.

In an interviewwith CBC News,Keeping said he will undergo surgery to deal with colorectal cancer on Oct. 15.

That surgery will forcedoctors to remove his rectum, anus, prostate and bladder.

Keeping, 71, will be bed-ridden for about six months, something the man is not used to. He is very involved in many Ottawa charities and he has a wing of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario named in his honour.

Keeping officially beat prostate cancer in 2003.

He also anchored the CTV Ottawa newscast from 1972 until his retirement in 2010.

The pride of Grand Bank, N.L., was then the station's community ambassador until March 2012.
