Jim Watson to seek re-election as Ottawa mayor in 2018

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says he wants to be re-elected in 2018.

Wants to oversee Zibi, LeBreton Flats, new central public library, among other projects

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says he wants to be re-elected in 2018.

In an announcement posted on social media Thursday morning, Watson wrote that he wants to lead projects likeZibi, LeBreton Flats, a new central public library and the redevelopment of the formerRockcliffeair base.

"Our city is in the midst of its most significant transformation in a generation, and with the support of the people of Ottawa, I hope to continue to play a small part in our beautiful city's bright future," he wrote.

Watson was first elected mayor in 1997 and thenagain in 2010 and 2014, after spending timein provincial politics as the MPP for Ottawa WestNepean.

He also spent time as president of the Canadian Tourism Commission.

The next municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 22, 2018.
