Malik Adjokatcher homicide: Police offer $50,000 reward 1 year later

Ottawa police are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest connected to the homicide of Malik Adjokatcher on May 14, 2013, exactly one year ago.

Malik Adjokatcher was gunned down on Ritchie Street a year ago.

Ottawa police are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the unsolved homicide of Malik Adjokatcher, killed exactly one year ago Wednesday.

On May 14, 2013, the 24-year-old was shot outside of a home at 119Ritchie St., just before midnight. Neighbours said they heard threeshots fired.

Police saidAdjokatcherwas shot in the chest before he raninto a nearby home to escape, when a responding officer tried to resuscitate him. He was then taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a Youtube video re-enactment created by Ottawa police in November 2013, lead investigator Sgt. Dan Brennan said Adjokatcher had been socializing with friends when an unknown suspect walked up to him and shot him several times in an unprovoked attack.

He also said the suspect is described as a dark-skinned male of average height and weight with medium-length dark hair.

Police sources also told CBC News Adjokatcher was known to police and was involved in gang activity.

Adjokatcher pleaded guilty to aggravated assaultin 2009 and was sentenced tomore than two years in jail after a stabbing in 2008. He had originally been charged with attempted murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

He was also convicted of drug and breach of probation charges in 2008.
