Man sentenced 6 years for St. Patrick's Day stabbing

A 21-year-old man who fatally stabbed another young man during a fight at a 2011 St. Patrick's Day party in Ottawa's Orleans neighbourhood was sentenced to six years in prison.

A 21-year-old man who fatally stabbed another young man during a fight at a 2011 St. Patrick's Day party in Ottawa's Orleans neighbourhood was sentenced to six years in prison.

Ben Taylor was 18 years old when he was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Scott Ledoux, 22.

He was convicted instead of manslaughter and sentenced Friday.

Taylor was hosting a house party and Ledoux was at the party.Taylor had asked Ledoux to leave, but Ledoux refused. The two fought twice that night.The firstfight started and ended as a fist fight and the second fight ended when Taylor pulled a kitchen knife hidden in his pocket and stabbed Ledoux.

The Crown had sought eight years while defence lawyers Taylor should be sentenced to the two years and three months he had already spent in jail.

Taylor's time in jail will count towards his time served.
