May showers bring new rainfall record

It's official: this has been the wettest May on record, with 175.8 millimetres of rain soaking the capital as of May 30.

It's no secret that Ottawa has already hadits fair share of rain this spring. The persistent precipitationcaused rivers in the region to burst their banks, floodinghundreds of homes. Many are still mopping up.

This month has already seen 175.8millimetresof rain as of May 30, surpassing the 164 millimetres that fell in May 1986 to seta new record, andmore than doublingthe May average of 83 millimetres.

Though no new flooding is expected, we're not out from under the clouds yet: Wednesday calls for a chance of thunderstorms with a high of 19 C.

Expect more rain on Thursday and Friday to kick off June, with highs in the low 20s.

The sun will finally appear in time forthe weekend, with a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday and Sunday.
