Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson had minor surgery today at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital to deal with a recurring skin cancer.

The mayorsaidthrough hisTwitter account a return of Squamous cell carcinoma forced him to take a day off work for surgery, but said he hoped he would be back at work Wednesday.

He tweeted again Tuesday to say the surgery was successful, though it took longer than expected.

A spokesman for Watson said hewas treated for two spotsone on his temple area and one on his neck.

Watson was first diagnosed with the skin cancer and had surgery to remove it in 2007.
