Shipping container bistros popping up in 3 Ottawa parks

New, temporary patios will soon be set up on National Capital Commission land in the Glebe, downtown Ottawa and along the Ottawa River.

New, temporary patios will soon be set up on National Capital Commission (NCC) land in the Glebe, downtown Ottawa and along the Ottawa River.

The three bistros are coming to Patterson Creek off the Rideau Canal, Confederation Park at the corner of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue, and the Remic Rapids near Tunney's Pasture.

They're part of a two-year pilot project between the NCC andlocal restaurants. The kitchenswill be set upinside repurposed shipping containers, and customers will sit outdoors.

Installation is expected to begin soon butno opening dates, menus or hours have been announced. The NCC saidthey won't stay open late into the night.

They're expected to operate until October.

Wine and pizza

Confederation Park's bistro is a pizza-centric partnership with DiVino Wine Studio on Preston Street, while the Patterson Creek location will have a French influence, the NCC said.

All three locations have a licence to serve wine and beer Ottawa's Kichesippi Beer Company is listed as a partner.

The NCCis also a partner intwo"taverns" on land it managesat Major's Hill Park and Rideau Falls off Sussex Drive.
