NCC happy with 1 bid to develop LeBreton

The National Capital Commission says it's proceeding with the one offer it received to develop residential land on LeBreton Flats. Two short-listed developers dropped out of the running to build homes on the Flats.

Alliance Prevel, of Montreal, and Minto Developments, of Ottawa, are not saying why they pulled out of the project.

Mayor Bob Chiarelli said, Sunday, the NCC should still evaluate the one remaining bid from Claridge Homes, of Ottawa.

A spokesperson for the NCC, Eva Schacherl, says the commission will wait for public comments. She says the Claridge proposal met the mandatory criteria, and will be given full consideration.

The NCC says the development on LeBreton must include low-income housing. Claridge's proposal calls for 800 low-income units, to be designed by Montreal architects.
