Nearly 50 homes evacuated in Gatineau

Approximately 50 homes in Gatineau, Que., have been evacuated as city crews try to contain floodwaters.

Nearly 100 people 81 adults and 17 children were registered with the city's disaster assistance centre as of Monday morning, the city said.

Crews spent part of Monday morning building gravel barriers along certain streets. The barriers serveasmakeshift roads in case residents have to flee their homes.

Residents who do so are asked to register at thedisaster assistance centre at the Jean Ren Monette building or call 311.

River levels peaked Sunday and remained stable overnight, but river regulators said the levels are expected to stay high for at least a few days.

Numerous streets remain closed or open to local traffic only because of flooding.
