Ont. terror suspect gets bail hearing date

A bail hearing for a London, Ont., doctor and former contestant on Canadian Idol charged in connection with an alleged terrorism plot has been set for the end of September.

A bail hearing for a London, Ont., doctor and former contestant on Canadian Idol charged in connection with an alleged terrorism plot has been set for the end of September.

Khurram Syed Sher, 28, made a brief appearance Thursday via video link in an Ottawa courtroom. Three days were set aside Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1 for the bail hearing.

Sher is charged along with Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh, 30 and Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, both of Ottawa, with conspiring to facilitate terrorism with others in Canada, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Dubai over the past two years.

Alizadeh is also charged with possessing an explosive substance with intent to harm, and providing property or financial services for the benefit of a terrorist group.

Ahmed's bail hearing is set for Sept. 15. Alizadeh will return to remand court on Sept. 16 to schedule his bail hearing.
