Ontario Votes 2022: Kanata-Carleton

The Kanata-Carleton district was a seven-candidate race back in 2018, with Progressive Conservative Merrilee Fullerton taking home just over 23,000 votes to win the seat.

That made up over 43 per cent of all ballots, with the NDP candidate bringing in more than 15,000 votes or 29 per cent.

There are six candidates in the race.

Jennifer Boudreau, New Blue

The New Blue candidate lives in Stittsvillewith her husband and three kids.

She is currently studying law at the University of London, England.

Brian Chuipka, Ontario Party

The Ontario Party representative has worked as a corporate consultant in Canads and the United States.

Melissa Coenraad, NDP

The NDP candidate works as a lab technician in a public health setting, and worked to test COVID-19 samples during the pandemic.

She also serves as the president of OPSEU Local 475, representing workers at 18 hospital labs across eastern Ontario.

Pat Freel, Green Party

The Green Party candidate has been volunteering with the party since he reached legal voting age, working as a canvasser and sign installer before moving onto being a volunteer co-ordinator, campaign manager and chief financial officer.

In 2018, he was the Green candidate for Ottawa West-Nepean.

Merrilee Fullerton, PC*

The Progressive Conservative incumbent was elected for the first time in 2018.

She graduated from the University of Ottawa medical school, and worked at Carleton Place Hospital beforebecominga family doctor.

Shahbaz Syed, Liberal

The Liberal candidate works in finance and banking, working at different institutions in Canada and around the world.

He lives in Kanata with his wife and four kids.
