Ottawa high school maintenance worker suffers fatal head injury
Ministry issues 2 interim orders to catholic school board after worker suffers fatal fall
Ontario's Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of a maintenance worker atSt. Nicholas Adult High School in Ottawa.
Paramedics arrived at the scene at about 12:30 p.m. outside the school and foundCharronon the ground suffering from a "traumatic head injury," said paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier. Charronhad no vital signs when paramedicsarrived.
Charronhad beenattempting to move a piece of equipment when he fell, leading to the fatal head injury, according to a Ministry of Labour spokesperson. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An investigator with the ministry who visited the site of the incidenthas issued two work orders to theOttawa Catholic School Board:
- That they ensure equipment is moved and transported in a safe manner.
- That theyensurea work surface is free of hazards, specifically ice and snow.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board said in a statement they were co-operating with the investigation.
The board said Monday counselling services were available to staff members, students and colleagues of Charron.
