Ottawa Lynx are not out yet

The Ottawa Lynx baseball team say they'll be in the city for another year.

The Ottawa Lynx baseball team say they'll be in the city for another year.

Rogers Sportsnet is reporting that the Lynx could be leaving the capital in the near future. The TV network says the International League team could be moved to the United States or sold to U.S. interests.

Team owner, Ray Pecor of Vermont, has said in the past he's disappointed with attendance this year. However, team spokesman, Barry Campbell, says they aren't leaving yet.

"The Lynx are going to be in Ottawa for the 2003 season and beyond, if the fans support the team," says Campbell. "I've seen the schedule for the 2003 season and Ottawa is on it, so we'll proceed as usual."

Campbell says Pecor wants to see 4,000 or more fans per game. They're getting close to that number now.

Pecor has said if attendance isn't up by mid-August, he'll meet with city officials to discuss whether there's any point in trying to keep the team in Ottawa.
