Rural Rideau-Jock ward looking for new voice

Scott Moffatt won the 2018 race in Ward 21 Rideau-Goulbourn. Now with a new name, this ward will also elect a new councillor.

Ward was formerly known as Rideau-Goulbourn

Scott Moffatt won the 2018 race in Ward 21 Rideau-Goulbourn, to be calledRideau-Jock in the next term.

In his last term at council, Moffatt pushed fora different name when he discovered the old name commemorated Sir Henry Goulburn,a British statesman and senior cabinet minister who was also the absentee owner of a plantation in Jamaica.

Now the new ward's name reflects one river, the Rideau, which helps define its border, and another, the Jock, which cuts through its heart.

This rural ward will also elect a new councillor with Moffatt not seeking re-election.

Five challengers are facing off for the seat:David Brown,Leigh-Andrea Brunet,Michael J Nowak,Patty SearlandKevin Setia.

Election day is Monday, Oct. 24. For more information about where and how to vote, visit thecity's election page.
