Ottawa police charged mayoral candidate Robin Lawrance with assault.

Police said Friday the charges stem from an incident where Lawrance, a visually-impaired former soldier, allegedly used his cane to strike his victim.

Lawrence, 50, is charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Earlier this week Lawrance was hospitalized after collapsing at a women's issues debate Wednesday at City Hall. He was later listed in stable condition.
