Police search for missing elderly woman last seen Sunday

Ottawa police are searching for a missing elderly woman who was last seen Sunday walking a small white poodle.

Ottawa police are searching for a missing elderly woman who was last seen Sunday walking a small white poodle.

Nelliya Karbisheva, 82, was last seen around the Horseshoe Crescent area in Stittsville at aboutnoon Sunday.

Her first language is Russian, she speaks limited English,and she suffers from "some degree of dementia,"according to Ottawa police Insp. Glenn Wasson.

A policecommand post is set up at the northern end of Stittsville Main Street, near a wooded area Karbishevaoften walks in. Police have beensearching the woods on foot with the help of OPP drones, Wasson said.

At about 10:30 p.m. Sundaythe missing womanmay have been spotted atthe Queensway-Carleton Hospital, about a two-and-a-half-hour walk away from the Horseshoe Crescent area in Stittsville.

A man was "quite confident" he saw her there with her dog, Wasson said, butno surveillance video was recorded due to construction andthepossible sighting has not been confirmed.

Police searched a300-metreradius fromthe possible sighting, including backyards, then returned to Stittsville Main Street late Monday.

Check sheds, yards

People living in the areaare asked to check their sheds, yards, oranywhere else the womanmay have gone for shelter in the rain.

Karbisheva is described as a white woman, about five feet two inchestall, with a medium build.

She hasshort salt and pepper hair, and was last seen wearing brown shorts,a rose or pink hat and a blue jacket.
