Ottawa schools with power will reopen Wednesday

Some schools in the Ottawa region will open again to staff and students for in-person learning on Wednesday, following a major storm that ravaged the region over the weekend.

School boards across Ottawa cancelledin-person and virtual classes on Tuesdaybecause of power outages and damages caused bythe derecho storm.

In updates sent to families on Tuesday, school boards in Ottawa said those schools with power would reopen, while those without would remain closed.

The city's largest board,theOttawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), warnedclass cancellations would still be possible due to staff shortages, and said schools will be notifying parents directly. It says both its virtual schools will remain closed Wednesday.

The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) also said its two virtual schools Blessed Carlo Virtual School and St. Josephine Virtual High School will also remain closed Wednesday.

The French Catholic school board in eastern Ontario, Conseil des coles catholiquesCentre-Est(CECCE), informed parents most of its schools will reopen Wednesday.

The French public school board in eastern Ontario, Conseil des coles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario (CEPEO), said some of its schools with power will still have to remain closed because of lack of staff.

No buses Wednesday

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority said in a statement that school buses and van transportation services won't run for any schools in the Ottawa area on Wednesday
