Paramedics hurt in Ottawa explosion released from hospital

Two Ottawa paramedics seriously injured after a training exercise explosion earlier this month have been discharged from hospital.

Supt. Craig MacInnes and paramedic Reid Purdy suffered second degree burns on their hands, legs and bodies after a explosive went off during a training exercise on June 18.

Both men will require ongoing treatment over the coming weeks but they are expected to return to regular duties, Ottawa Paramedics revealed in a statement onFriday.

Ottawa police, paramedics and RCMP had been conducting a joint forced-entry exercise involving explosives at an abandoned house on March Road in the west Ottawa neighbourhood of Kanata.

The hostage simulation involved officers inside the house acting as victims and suspects, police sources told CBC News.

The province's Special Investigations Unit and Ontario's Ministry of Labour continue to investigate the incident.
