Police investigating Ottawa's 6th homicide of 2014

The Ottawa police major crimes unit is investigating the city's sixth homicide of the year after a body was found at the Sawmill Creek Reservoir Thursday morning.

A man's body was discovered Thursday not far from the Airport Parkway pedestrian bridge.

The Ottawa police major crimes unit is investigating the city's sixth homicide of the year after thebody of a man was found at the Sawmill Creek Reservoir Thursday morning.

A cyclist made the discovery at about 7 a.m. ET while biking along a pathbetween the Airport Parkway and the South Keys Transitway station, near the reservoir.

The body was lying in the brush just off the path and there were obvious signs of trauma.

The body was found about 100 to 200 meters away from the Airport Parkway near Hunt Club Road, police said.

Traffic was affected by the investigation and part of the pathway behind the South Keys Mall was taped off. Police are expected toconductgrid searches in the area for evidence.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine thecause of death. The victimis not being identified until next of kin are notified, police said.

Surveillance video footage has been gathered by police from OC Transpo.

Thebody was discovered not far from the much-delayed Airport Parkway pedestrian bridge.

The city said Thursday afternoon that anopening ceremony andspeeches will go ahead as planned on Saturday in spite of the homicide investigationon the pathway leading to the bridge.
