Ottawa Police are looking for a large transport truck they believe was involved in a hit and run collision on Rideau Street early Friday morning that killed a woman.

Police said a B-Train transport truck a transport truck pulling two trailers hit the woman while she was walking along Rideau near Waller at about 6 a.m., near the Rideau Centre mall.

Police closed Rideaus eastbound lanes between Dalhousie and Cumberland streets, and Waller Street between Rideau and Besserer streets for several hours. They reopened the roads at 11 a.m. Friday.

The Ottawa police collisions unit is investigating the collision.

Daniel Beauregard lives nearby and said this section of Rideau Street near King Edward has concerned locals for years.

"I never go around that corner. That's where all the trucks turn. That goes on all day - you can't count how many trucks go around that corner," said Beauregard.

"Two weeks ago, I'm walking by and then there's a double tractor trailer, full of lumber - and you should have seen the speed at which this guy took the curve at. I said holy! They got to do something - you can't have truck running through the heart of the city," he said.

Police said an autopsy has been scheduled on the woman's body.
