A 19-year-old woman is dead and a 20-year-old woman is in an induced coma after taking unidentified pills at rave events in Ottawa between June 29 and July 1.

Ottawa police are investigating two separate incidents where the women had severe reactions to the pills.

Police don't know yet what drugs the women took, but they believe they were from a bad batch of ecstasy.

Police said the 20-year-old from Ottawa went to a local hospital and she remains in a coma, suffering from liver problems. She is expected to pull through.

They saidthe 19-year-old woman, who is from Montreal, wentto an Ottawa hospital anddied hours later. She had bought the pill in Montreal, police said, and collapsed at the Escapade Music Festival at theRideau Carleton Raceway.

One of the women took the pills at an east-end location and the other in the downtown area, according to Ottawa police spokesman Const. Chuck Benoit.

Benoit said an autopsy would determine what drugs were taken and how much was ingested. The coroner would also find out whether the pills were mixed with alcohol.
