Rodriguez, who owns Navarra on Murray Street, was one of three finalists heading into Monday night's episode.

He beat fellow Ontarians Terry Salmond of Kitchener and Rich Francis of Six Nations.

Rodriguez was born in Ottawa but has lived in Mexico, where he started cooking at the age of 12, according to a biography posted on Navarra's website.

He's inspired by cuisine from Mexico and the Basque region of Spain, and has worked at ARC The Hotel, Social Restaurant & Lounge, Black Cat Bistro, Luxe Bistro and Ironwood Cafe.

In a previous cooking competition he served fried tequila worms in a dish. He raised the worms himself, feeding them Shreddies cereal, until they were ready for consumption.
