Rideau Street closed to vehicles between Sussex, Dalhousie for 3 years

Rideau Street is now closed to vehicle traffic from Sussex Drive to Dalhousie Street for three years, and some businesses aren't happy.

Ken Goodhue, owner of The Highlander Pub, says the city didn't provide enough notice of the three-year closure and that construction hoarding is challenging to navigate for customers.

But not all business owners believethe vehicular closure will affect sales along Rideau Street.

"It's not like people are dropping people off in front of our store; not in most cases anyway," said Larry Allen, who works at Letellier Shoes.

"Most people are walking in. I really can't see it impacting us as much as most people think it might. It might even work the other way."
