English-language Ottawa schools closed on Monday

English-language schools in Ottawa will be closed Monday in the aftermath of tornadoes that hit the city on Friday evening.

Storm damage, power outages still affecting several areas of the city

English-language schools in Ottawa will be closedMonday in the aftermath of tornadoes that hit the city on Friday evening.

In an announcement posted online, the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) cited extensive damage across the city as well as continuing power outages as factors in the closures.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) also announced city-wide closures for Monday.

No before- orafter-school care will be available atschools and all extracurricular activities will also be cancelled.

At least twoschools in the Outaouaiswill also be closed tomorrow as cleanup from Friday's stormcontinues.

Hadley Junior and Philemon Wright High School in Gatineau announced today that it would be closed on Monday due to tornado damage.

L'cole SecondaireMont-Bleu, where a fire broke out Friday after the storm, announced today that the school would be closed between Sept. 24 and Sept. 28.

The University of Ottawa and Carleton University said classes and regular activities will be held as scheduled this week.

Algonquin College will be open tomorrow for all classes and regular activities.

Ottawa's French-language Catholic school board announced Sunday night that six schools would be closed Monday:Terre-des-Jeunes, Edouard-Bond, Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, Pierre-Savard, Sainte-Kateri andLaurier-Carrire.

In a letter to parents on Sunday, school administrators said mostschools don't appear to be damaged but a handful were still without power.

All French-language public schools will be open Monday except forOmer-DeslauriersandCharlotte-Lemieux.
