Former Great Big Sea member San McCann discusses music, alcoholism on All in a Day

There may be no band more associated with Newfoundland than Great Big Sea but for former member San McCann, it's now Ottawa that's home.

"The average temperature in St. John's the past summer was literally nine degrees! That was probably the straw that broke the camel's back," said McCann, speaking with CBC Ottwa's Alan Neal on afternoon show All in a Day.

McCann is currently touring his albumHelp Your Selfaround eastern Ontario, with stops in Belleville on Oct. 22 and Kingston on Oct. 23.

First, however, he stopped by the CBC Ottawa studios to speak with host Alan Neal about moving to the nation's capital, his timewith Great Big Sea, and overcoming his alcoholism through music. Listen below.
