Sentencing in teen prostitution trial put off to January

The mother of one of the victims gave a statement at the sentencing hearing of one of three girls accused of coercing other teens into prostitution.

The sentencing of a teen girl who pleaded guilty to helping run a prostitution ring is being held off until January.

The girl, now 18, was 16 years old when she andtwo other teen girls were arrested and charged in 2012.

The Crown and defence made a joint submission in court Tuesday that the teen should be sentenced to one year of time already served and two years of probation. They're also asking for a weapons ban, a DNA sample to be added to a databankand extensive counselling.

The Crown also wants the girl to have a curfew of 9 p.m. for six months, and to have no contact with her two co-assused, two victims, a victim's mother and another teen facing similar charges in a separate trial.

Justice DianeLahaiesaid she will make her ruling on Jan. 17, 2014.

The court heard a victim impact statement Tuesday from one of the teen victim's mothers.

The woman, who can't be identified in order to protect the victim,said her daughter is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and has trouble sleeping at night.

Another girlwho was15 at the time of herarrest isexpected to be sentenced on Dec.20. She has also pleaded guilty.

The alleged ringleader, who was also 15 when she was arrested, has pleaded not guilty and her trial is not yet over.
